In short: we only collect what we need to run your ride. We never sell your data, we don't use tracking cookies, and we only send marketing emails if you opt in.

1. Who we are

Golden Hour Boat Co. ("we", "us", "our") offers small-group motorboat rides on Lake Ontario in Toronto. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information when you visit our website, book a ride or contact us.

We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Booking details: your name, email address, phone number, chosen tour, date, time, number of guests and add-ons.
  • Special requests: information you choose to share, such as a celebration, accessibility needs, allergies or dietary needs. We only use this to prepare your ride.
  • Messages: anything you send us by email, phone or text.
  • Payment: payments are processed by a third-party payment provider. We receive confirmation of payment and the last four digits of your card, but never your full card number.

Information collected automatically

  • Our web host keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and the date and time of the visit, for security and to keep the site running.
  • This website does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

3. How we use your information

  • To confirm, manage, reschedule or refund your booking.
  • To contact you about your ride, for example about the weather, meeting point or changes.
  • To prepare your ride, including add-ons, accessibility needs and allergies.
  • To answer your questions and provide customer service.
  • To keep accounting and tax records as required by law.
  • To protect the security of our website and prevent fraud.
  • To send you news and offers, only if you have opted in (see section 5).

We only collect the information we need for these purposes, and we do not use it for anything else without your consent, unless the law requires or permits it.

4. Your consent

By booking with us or contacting us, you consent to us using your information as described in this policy. When you book for a group, please make sure the other guests are comfortable with you sharing their information, such as names or allergies, with us.

You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. If you withdraw consent, we may not be able to provide some services, for example a booking without contact details.

5. Marketing emails

We will only send you promotional emails, such as seasonal offers or Special nights announcements, if you have given us your express consent, as required by CASL. Every marketing email includes our contact details and an easy unsubscribe link. We process unsubscribe requests within 10 business days.

Service messages about a booking you have made, such as a confirmation or a weather update, are not marketing, and you will receive them even if you have not opted in.

6. When we share information

We never sell or rent your personal information. We only share it with:

  • Service providers who help us run the business, such as our payment processor, email provider, booking software and website host. They may only use your information to provide services to us.
  • Add-on partners, such as a photographer or caterer, but only the details they need, such as your first name, date and time, group size or allergies.
  • Authorities, when required by law, or in an emergency on the water, such as Coast Guard, police or paramedics.
  • A future buyer or successor of our business, who must protect your information in the same way.

7. Storage outside Canada

Some of our service providers may store or process information outside Canada, for example in the United States. In that case, your information may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that country. We choose providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to Canadian law.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work hard to protect your information.

If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as required by PIPEDA.

10. Your rights
